Today, Grandesign announces brands planning immersive activations at “The Experience” during San Diego Comic-Con. The Experience –a new venture in partnership with Petco Park – brings comic book enthusiasts an over-the-top interactive zone for all to enjoy outside of the Convention Center.
From July 19-22, the three-acre blacktop will transform into a pop-culture playground equipped with food trucks, a beer garden, VIP lounges, after-hours entertainment and a myriad of activations from some of the largest Comic-Con-esque brands. Activations, led by Grandesign, include:
History’s Project Blue Book, which invites fans to get closer than ever to the previously classified “Headquarters” – a living, breathing remnant of 1952, brought back to life with modern technology and fresh perspectives. Attendees can expect to revisit the timeless question, “Do you believe?” through a modern lens and explore real UFO incidents from the era in an attempt to settle the many burning questions once and for all
Marvel’s Cloak & Dagger on Freeform, which recreates the iconic moment Tyrone and Tandy’s powers interact by fabricating a physical experience where participants are harnessed to a bungee that propels them backwards from the force of their powers. A slow-motion recording captures the moment in an overlay effect that shows both the light and dark energy emitting from participants allowing attendees to post their experience as a unique duo on social media platforms.
Sony Pictures’ “Ghostbusters World”—in collaboration with Ghost Corps, publisher FourThirtyThree Inc. (4:33) and developer Next Age—which invites attendees to experience the new augmented reality game at its first public demo. While gamers wait for the first chance to battle and capture hundreds of ghosts, they can try on authentic Ghostbusters costumes, pose with the original Ecto-1 and awe at the towering Stay Puff Marshmallow Man.
“After bringing memorable activations to Comic-Con for the past eight years—including Adult Swim on the Green and TBS’ Wrecked Island—we are excited to bring San Diego The Experience for the first time,” said COO of Grandesign, Robert Ridgeway. “We not only have similar over the top activations in this first year, but we’ve added food, drinks and an entertainment element that will extend into the evening to provide an awesome fan experience.”
The Experience takes place at the Lexus Premier Lot and is open to Comic-Con badge holders, who will enjoy VIP status, and the general public.
